New Denver would get its incorporated status in 1929 and to the current day has about 600 residents.  New Denver would go on and make history in the Southern Interior for reasons other than mining as well.  It’s most famous accolade was that of being a Japanese Canadian internment camp during the outbreak of World War II.  Canada followed the same procedures as their American cousins by detaining all Japanese Canadian citizens.  It was said all together about 23,000 Japanese Canadians were sent to these camps with the most famous being dubbed ‘The Orchard’.  The Nikkei Interment Centre was another camp in New Denver and to this day the town has a memorial in the honor of the people who were sent there.

These days have seen New Denver trying to keep up with times.  As like many Southern Interior towns, New Denver is set in their ways and it has only been over the last couple of years that cell phone service has tried to come to the area.  As a matter of fact, a majority of the residents of New Denver are against cell phone service.  This is sure evidence to the beliefs and the adherence to the traditions of years ago that are still evident and alive in the town of New Denver, British Columbia and the Southern Interior.
